SAN ARDO, Monterey County — October 29, 2026. Residents of San Ardo and surrounding rural South County communities have two scheduled opportunities to tell local transportation planners which roads, intersections and destinations need safer walking or bicycle connections. The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) is collecting feedback for its Monterey County Active Transportation Plan, a planning effort—not a list of projects already funded for construction.
Two chances to give input in San Ardo
According to an October 28 report by the Salinas Valley Tribune, transportation agency representatives plan to attend the San Ardo Resource Fair on Thursday, October 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at San Ardo School, 62428 Center Street. A second, more focused discussion is scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Ransom Church on Kentallen Road. The November focus group requires registration; residents should confirm arrangements with TAMC before traveling.
People who cannot attend an in-person event can still participate in the agency’s online engagement process. The official Active Transportation Plan webpage links to its public participation tools.
What should residents tell planners?
Useful input identifies a real place and a real obstacle: a route that feels unsafe without a shoulder or sidewalk; difficult crossings on a school journey; a destination that is hard to reach without a car; or stretches where speeding vehicles, lighting or visibility create concerns. Specific observations are more useful than a general request for safer roads.
The planning process may help agencies identify priorities and future grant applications, but a suggested crossing or bike lane is not automatically an approved construction project. Residents who have questions about existing roadwork should distinguish this countywide planning effort from the separately reported San Ardo sidewalk connection contract.
A separate Safe Streets survey also covers San Ardo
TAMC and partners also operate the Safe Streets Together Monterey County campaign. That page offers a San Ardo street-safety survey as well as one for King City. The awareness campaign focuses on safer behavior and road use under the region’s Vision Zero framework; it is related to, but not the same as, the Active Transportation Plan.
