SAN ARDO, Calif. — San Ardo residents are invited to mark the completion of a local sidewalk improvement project during a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, at 12:20 p.m.
The ceremony is planned at the intersection of Center and Godchaux streets, according to an October 30 community notice. Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez, public works staff and local residents are expected to attend.
A safer route through the community
The county’s San Ardo Sidewalk Project, No. 1178, includes work along College, Center and Godchaux streets and at the Cattlemen Road intersection.
The stated work encompasses concrete sidewalks, curbs and accessible curb ramps, improvements to pavement, striping, flashing beacons and roadway lighting. These features are intended to make it safer and more practical to walk between neighborhood destinations, including school-area routes.
The November ceremony recognizes project completion, a new milestone beyond the earlier county construction contract. Residents can inspect the finished work and hear from public officials while the community celebrates the improvements.
Why sidewalks matter in rural towns
Pedestrian access is not only a concern in large cities. In smaller communities such as San Ardo, missing sidewalks can force residents to walk along road edges. Accessible crossings and connected paths are especially important for children, older adults and people using mobility devices.
Road users should continue to use caution even after infrastructure is installed. New sidewalk construction does not eliminate traffic risks, and drivers still need to yield at crossings.
